W

hen I last
addressed
the
SuperJet
SSJ100
(Jetrader
Spring
2014), the program was arguably
still maturing. There were numerous
positive signs, including a successful
launch at Mexican LCC InterJet and a
large order book indicating a potential
successful and international effort
by Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft
Company. The most significant thing
the program appeared to lack was an
FAA certification program to put the
aircraft on the radar of U.S. regionals
and lessors and in direct competition
with the E-190 and CRJ-1000.

Today, prospects are unclear. While
the aircraft seems to have solidified
its position with Russian carriers, the
same cannot be said of its entry into
the West where the largest customers
have either removed the type from the
fleet (CityJet) or have cast doubt on its
future deployment (InterJet).
The SSJ100-95 is a twin-engine
regional jet fitted with up to 108 seats
in a single-class configuration. Offered
in two variants, the SSJ100-95B
boasts range of 1,452 NM and MTOW
of 101,150, while the heavier -95LR
version weighs in at 109,000 pounds
MTOW with a range of 2,333 NM.
The aircraft is equipped with
substantial content from Western
manufacturers, including landing gear
from Safran, avionics from Thales, APU

from Honeywell and flight controls from
the Liebherr Aerospace, among others.
Propulsion is provided by two PowerJet
SaM146 engines produced by a 50/50
joint venture of Safran Aircraft Engines
and UEC Saturn. Engine support is
provided under the PowerLife™ banner.
Based on data supplied by Sukhoi
and other public sources, 160 aircraft
have been produced, with only 138 in
operation. Most of the in-service aircraft,
over 100, are with Russian operators,
with the largest fleets being held by
Aeroflot, Yamal Airlines, Azimuth and
Gazpromavia.
According to Sukhoi, 22 aircraft
were delivered in 2018, with 20 planned
in 2019. Recently, Sukhoi announced a
contract with startup Thai Kom Airlines
for six aircraft that will begin delivery
