New York (a law-firm only event) and
Dubai. Hong Kong was canceled due
to the political unrest, but it's a very
important market for us, to which we
remain committed," Anderson says.
"Over those events, we would expect
to have close to 700 participants each
year, of which we always target 50%
male participation. That's a pretty
wide swath of people globally who
truly are the leaders in this industry.

We think that's a pretty incredible
accomplishment, but it's not enough.
In order to really know if what we're
doing is working, we have to be able to
measure diversity statistics and track
our progress over time. Unfortunately,
we didn't have the expertise or the
resources to do this successfully."
In early 2019, Anderson joined
forces with Dublin City University's
Center of Excellence for Diversity and
Inclusion as chair of a new initiative,
the 2020 Aviation Year of Inclusion. An

advisory committee from across all
corners of the Irish aviation industry
was established and set about
laying the groundwork for the first
ever scientific study of diversity and
inclusion in this critical sector of the
Irish business economy. Throughout
2020, the committee, together with
members of the DCU business faculty
and a small, specialized consulting
team, planned to conduct research,
hold engagement events, develop white
papers and toolkits, and, importantly,
create benchmarks to measure
progress going forward. Anderson had
high hopes that the work in Ireland
could ultimately be scaled to other
regions to create global data points and
benchmarks for measuring progress
around the world.

Effects of COVID-19 and
Looking to the Future
Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic has
upended 2020 plans across the board.
The DCU Year of Inclusion initiative has
been put on hold, likely until at least
