ISTAT Foundation
Before the final panel, Peter Huijbers,
the ISTAT Foundation chair and
director at PH Aviation Asia Ltd.,
gave an update on the Foundation's
work. The Foundation has provided a
total of $230,000 in COVID-19 relief
grants, with Air Lease Corporation
matching contribution for COVID-19
relief in India. The Foundation is also
focused on diversity and inclusion and,
as part of that effort, is developing
guidelines and best practices for
the Foundation's giving programs,
volunteers and leaders. In 2021, 53%
of the Foundation's charitable funding
was dedicated to individuals and
nonprofit organizations in Africa, Asia
and Latin America.
In 2022, the Foundation is on track to:
* Award $423,000 in scholarships.
* Invest $63,000 in ISTAT
University.
* Provide $45,000 in internship
stipends.
* Award $145,000 in grants.
* Award $170,000 in
humanitarian aid.
Also this year, the Foundation is
supporting Afghanistan through providing
Airlink a $25,000 humanitarian grant

for critical airlift of medical supplies in
the country.
Lessor CEOs
Closing out the conference program
was the Lessor CEO Panel. Kostya
Zolotusky moderated and was joined by
a panel comprising Thomas Baker, chief
executive officer of Aviation Capital
Group; Robert Korn, president of Carlyle
Aviation Partners; Michael Inglese, chief
executive officer of Aircastle; and John
Plueger, president and chief executive
officer of Air Lease Corporation.
The panelists discussed inflation,
the narrowbody shortage, the freighter
market, mergers and acquisitions,
and the debt market, among other
topics. On inflation, Baker said:
" Gentle, upwardly sloping inflation
is a good thing. Volatility is what
creates challenges. A return of some
form of inflation, on balance, is good
for us. We need to grind through the
volatility. " Plueger agreed, saying,
" Inflation long term we need to be
careful about but, historically, it's
been kind to the leasing industry. "
On M&A, Korn remarked that
" every time there's one merger,
you get two heads that grow back.
For every M&A activity, there's a
management team that's available
and can split and become two more.
I think there will be larger companies
by consolidation but also new
lessors growing. "

other ISTAT Americas attendees at this
year's event, including the Welcome
Reception, Women@ISTAT Networking
Reception, the Rising Executives
Event, the Networking Reception at
the USS Midway Museum, Club ISTAT
at Moonshine Flats, Friends of the
ISTAT Foundation Reception, and the
President's Gala Dinner and Award
Ceremony where Rafael Alonso,
retired president of the Latin America
and Caribbean region at Airbus, was
presented with the ISTAT Award.
