term emphasis is on sustainable aviation
fuel (SAF), which is widely accepted
today as a drop-in replacement for
conventional jet fuel that works with
existing airplanes, yet has substantially
lower life cycle carbon emissions. SAF
is in regular use today and offers the
most immediate and largest potential to
reduce carbon emissions over the next
20 to 30 years.
Boeing took a series of recent
actions to ensure airplanes are ready,
and we are doing our part to scale
up the supply of SAF while lowering
the cost.
* We announced that our
commercial airplanes will be
capable and certified to fly on
100% sustainable aviation fuels
by 2030.
* Boeing, SkyNRG and SkyNRG
Americas announced a
partnership focused on scaling
the availability and use of SAF
globally. Boeing will also invest

in SkyNRG Americas' SAF
production project.
* Boeing partnered with the NASA
Langley Research Center to
test the emissions of SAF on
the 2021 ecoDemonstrator, an
Alaska Airlines 737-9.
* We became a founding member
of the First Movers Coalition,
partnering with leading
companies across sectors to
accelerate the development
of new technologies to reduce
emissions, with Boeing's
emphasis on the scale-up and
use of SAF.
* Boeing bought 2 million gallons
of SAF for our commercial
operations.
* Boeing became a founding
member of the Canadian
Council for Sustainable Aviation
Fuels to support the Canadian
aviation industry's effort
to decarbonize.
Boeing has been a pioneer in

making sustainable aviation fuels
a reality. We worked with airlines,
engine manufacturers and others
to qualify and conduct biofuel test
flights in 2008 and gain approval for
commercial use in 2011. In 2018,
the Boeing ecoDemonstrator flight
test program made the world's first
commercial airplane flight using 100%
sustainable fuels with a 777 Freighter, in
collaboration with FedEx Express.
Advanced Technology
Boeing is advancing the future of flight
with the latest digital design, test,
and production tools, airframe, and
propulsion and systems technology.
Different power and energy solutions
will apply to different market segments
and aircraft sizes.
We need green hydrogen for any
version of the future because it's
required to produce SAF. Beyond
using hydrogen for SAF, the industry
