The panel discussed engine issues,
and the audience was polled a couple
of times for their thoughts on the
technical issues of the new generation
of engines and their comfort level with
investing in aircraft engines without an
aircraft attached.
The Airbus/Boeing Panel was
next, moderated by Max KingsleyJones, executive director of content at
FlightGlobal. It included presentations
by Darren Hulst, senior managing
director of marketing analysis and sales
support for commercial airplanes at
Boeing; and Paul Meijers, executive
vice president of leasing and financing
for customers at Airbus. Kingsley-Jones
started the discussion by asking the
panel if there's an illness in the industry
of over-promising and under-delivering
since the last all-new airplane that was
delivered on time was in 1995. Both
OEMs agreed that their companies have

learned a lot over the past few years.
The audience was asked if increased
rates on Airbus and Boeing single aisles
are justified and if A350 is a viable
competitor to the 777-9.
The Environmental Panel was a
clear highlight of the day, moderated
by Helane Becker, managing director of
Cowen and Company, and comprised
of Richard Goodhead, senior vice
president of marketing at Rolls-Royce;
Patrick Gruber, CEO of GEVO; and
Robert Lange, senior vice president
of business analysis and market
forecast at Airbus. Becker began the
conversation by stating: "The No.
1 question I get from investors is
'What are airlines doing in regard to
the environment?"
"This has to be an industrywide
approach," Lange said, adding that the
air transport industry has delivered
strong improvements in productivity.
