FROM THE PRESIDENT

Headwinds of Change

I

am thrilled to say that
ISTAT EMEA in Berlin was a
resounding success. We had
record numbers in attendance,
and the location was fantastic.
Our diversity and inclusion (D&I)
footprint continues to expand,
both in terms of persons on stage and
delegates. We will continue to strive to
push this forward through the efforts
of Marilyn Gan and her committee. I
hope you will join me in this drive to
promote D&I.
We also unveiled our ISTAT
Professional Development Program
(ISTAT PDP) and already have had
a significant number of inbounds
regarding the course from prospective
participants. The application process
opened on 15 October, and the course
will commence in April 2020 (Dublin)
and also have modules in June (Airbus,
Toulouse), September (Dublin) and
October. I want to thank Dean Gerber,
Nils Hallerstrom, Damon D'Agostino
and Dick Forsberg for all their efforts

The bull run this industry has endured would seem
to be coming to an end, but we have said that several
times in the past number of years.

this initiative.
Unfortunately, I would be remiss
not to comment on the headwinds
we are facing as an industry. We
have seen an increased number of
bankruptcies over the past few months
and continuing pressure on our sector.
The bull run this industry has endured
would seem to be coming to an end,

but we have said that several times in
the past number of years. We certainly
have an interesting few months and
years ahead of us.
I would like to draw our members'
attention to our Between Jobs
Program. This program provides a
service to long-standing members
who may be in temporary need or are
between jobs. If certain guidelines are
met, ISTAT provides complimentary
admission to many of ISTAT's events.
There is an increased focus on
the environment in all industrial
sectors, and ISTAT and its members
are not immune. While we have seen
great technological strides by the
OEMs and efforts by all constituents
within our aviation universe, we are
coming into greater scrutiny in recent
times. As such, we have set up an
Environmental Task Force, co-led by
Michael Weiss and Kostya Zolotusky,
to better understand what ISTAT can
do to be more green.
Next up we have the "Live Aid" of
Holiday Receptions on 4 December
in Tokyo, London, Dublin, New York
and Miami. We also have a new
event to coincide with our members
descending on Dublin where we
will host an NFL Playoff Party on 19
January. No doubt I will see some of
you at one or more of these events!
