moderated by Lynn Guiney, CEO
of Soleir. The panel included Dick
Forsberg, senior advisor of Aviation
Finance Advisory Services at PwC;
Marie-Louise Kelly, chief financial
officer at Orix Aviation; Jolene Verheije,
manager of the Center for ClimateAligned
Finance at RMI; and Ulrike
Ziegler, president of IMPACT.
On the topic of sustainable aviation
fuel (SAF), Forsberg said: " What needs
to happen to expedite the transition
to sustainable aviation fuel? Where
are we at on the journey? IATA says
over the next years from now to 2050,
SAF will have to play a very significant
role (65%). Carbon offsets, emissions
trading and carbon capture will be
19%. Where are we with SAF right
now? Almost nowhere. "
In addition to the topics of
decarbonization and SAF, the panel
also focused on the " S " is ESG.
" When it comes to balanced decisionmaking, "
Guiney said, " you need to
have a balanced team. The two biggest
categories are gender and ethnicity.
During the pandemic in Ireland, we had
a team of men telling us what to do.
Better decisions are made when you
have balance. How many studies do
we need to do to show that diversity
is required? "
She asked Kelly, who is a woman
in the C-suite, and she said, " One
thing that strikes me when we look at
the pipeline is that it's more obvious
in certain disciplines. It's underweight
in some areas. We're thinking hard
about what we can do to encourage
gender diversity in STEM areas. If we
don't have that pool of talent coming
through, we'll never reach the numbers
