Humanitarian
The Humanitarian
Committee, chaired
by Richard Wall, is
tasked with
identifying and
assessing worthy aviation-focused
humanitarian causes across the globe.
Going forward, the committee will
focus on less-developed parts of the
world, and also where the Foundation
can make a positive impact amid
climate catastrophes, including
flooding or areas lacking urban
mobility - dealing with the " last mile "
of disaster relief. The committee will
also include gender diversity among its
funding considerations.
Despite the pandemic's impact
on aviation over the last two-plus
years, the Foundation's humanitarian
giving increased. In 2022 alone, the
committee granted US$250,000 to
charities delivering critical services in
Africa, South America, Oceania, Europe
and North America, and also dedicated
a portion of the funds to Airlink's
important efforts.
Committee members include: Julian
Balaam (Skytech-AIC), Emer Foley
(SMBC Aviation Capital), Sylvain Gloux
(NORD/LB), Michael Halaby (MUFG),
Sandra Higgins (SMBC Aviation Capital),
James McCarthy (Dynam Aviation), Erin
McGarry (Pratt & Whitney), Christine
Rovelli (Finnair Oyj) and Rod Sheridan
(Sheridan Aviation Services Inc.).
Ukraine Relief Fund
The Ukraine Relief Fund was launched
in March 2022 to support efforts of
Airlink and other aviation-focused
nongovernmental organizations. Initial
contributions by the Foundation and Air
Lease Corporation totaled US$300,000.
ISTAT launched a matching campaign
to raise US$1 million. The goal
was achieved with the help of over
400 ISTAT members and member
companies, including Alton Aviation
Consultancy, Amazon, Pratt & Whitney,
AerFin, Standard Aero, Orix, WTW,
Aircastle, AerCap, Katten Law, Jackson
Square Aviation and VmoAir.
With this significant level of
funding and support, Airlink delivered
559 responders and 572 tons of aid
to Ukraine, helping an estimated
3.7 million Ukrainians. Additionally,
the Foundation granted funds to
the Flying Angels Foundation Onlus,
which enabled Ukrainian children to
reach a specialized hospital through
air ambulances and private flights
equipped with dedicated medical staff.
