Kopald shared the value of discussion boards on social media: "I put out a question on LinkedIn and received hundreds of responses and made many new connections." Drummond cited the benefit of the different perspective a colleague can put on an issue, saying, "e different lens ultimately enables you to make a better and more informed decision. Topics such as structure and coaching are examples of where my network has added value". Fifield highlighted the importance of openness when tapping into his network: "I seek to be approachable and without a personal agenda. By adopting the, 'what do I have to offer stance,' I have found many ideas and opportunities that I wouldn't have necessarily pursued on my own." Petee noted his network has supported his professional growth. "I have been advised of job opportunities and gained endorsements for new roles, and furthermore I tap into my network for interviewing tips." Clor cited the importance of being generous with your time and expertise: "I work to ensure my internal team shares information, I run ad hoc sessions at lunch for anyone who wants to know more about managed care. Additionally I coach grad students who need help with the complexities of healthcare reform." Petee also shared the value in ensuring you have established mechanisms to network and develop your own teams. "I have instituted a peer review monthly development session for my team. "You have to work at this, you can't count on serendipity," Clor stated. "I put networking on my weekly to-do list. A quick email or phone call contributes to keeping the relationship alive."
