HALLOFFAME HALL OF FAME William 'Mack' Thompson, ED.S, MS, CMR, CPM ■ By Chris Goins and Michelle O'Connor We had the honor, pleasure and privilege to work with Mack for many years. M ack ompson was a tireless advocate of the learning and development profession. Aer graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977, Mack took his love of learning to the classroom, teaching high school. In 1982, Mack had the opportunity to pursue another passion, selling, and he began a career working in the pharmaceutical industry as a sales representative for various companies. In 2001, aer a successful stint as a district manager, Mack had the opportunity to join the Wyeth sales training department as a group training manager, where he realized the perfect combination of his love for learning and selling. A lifelong learner, Mack earned several advanced degrees while serving in various training roles until his retirement from Pfizer in 2011 as director/team leader, continuous development. We had the honor, pleasure and privilege to work with Mack for many years, beginning in 2006 when he took a position as director, career advancement and distance learning at Wyeth. Mack was instrumental in developing an innovative career development program that served more than 4,000 field sales employees. He authored the application to Training Magazine's Top 125 training organizations using this program as a model for increased field engagement and reduced costs. Wyeth consistently placed within the Top 10 training organizations in the country. Wyeth, now Pfizer, is one of only 12 companies named in Training Magazine's Top Ten Hall of Fame. Mack was an enthusiastic advocate of LTEN, attending the annual conference and leading workshops for many years. Mack was wellknown at the conference and couldn't walk far Mack Thompson and his wife Melissa. without stopping to talk with a friend. He was sought aer for his expertise, and was always willing to share advice and counsel. Aer retiring from Pfizer, Mack and his wife Melissa realized their dream to move back to their home state of North Carolina where Mack became director, corporate training for Forsyth Community College. In August of 2015, Mack received the news that he had a brain tumor and was given only six weeks to live. roughout his short battle, Mack continued to focus on others first. While Mack had many achievements to celebrate over his career, he was a humble man, always quick to give others the credit that he richly deserved. His motto was "learning and selling" and he did both with unique passion and dedication. His legacy carries on in the many lives he touched and enhanced as a teacher, trainer, manager, and colleague. We congratulate LTEN on recognizing Mack's many achievements in training by placing him in the LTEN Hall of Fame.
