A Time to Reflect
and Plan
It's time for you
to toot your horn
and shout from the
mountaintops.

T

here is no better time than year's end to
pause and reflect on the year, and to get
ready for the year ahead. Reflecting
includes noting what accomplishments you are
proud of and what you hope the New Year will
bring. And, of course, planning for that hope to
become a reality by developing an action plan.
Do we really spend enough time reflecting
on all the major accomplishments that flew by
in the frenzy of another busy and productive
year before jumping into next year's plan? I'm
sure some people do, and some people do not,
caught up instead in the day-to-day.
Reflecting on 2017, I must recognize the end
of the term of Mary Myers, president of the
LTEN Board of Directors. Mary's tenure as
LTEN president ends with 2017, but it certainly
will continue in spirit. During Mary's tenure,
membership has grown 20 percent and conference attendance grew to more than 900 (by 27
percent). Mary led the LTEN organization to
sponsor our inaugural Leadership Forum in
October, an event designed to support the
unique needs of training leaders. Mary pushed
LTEN to explore enhanced technologies, resulting in the launch of SocialLink, a member-focused chat board, and an enhanced L-TEN.org
website, designed to be mobile friendly. ank
you, Mary Myers, for all you've done, and will
continue to do, for LTEN!
Saying goodbye to Mary as our president is
bittersweet; however, welcoming David
Fortanbary as the new Board president is sweet
as it can be. David has been part of the LTEN
Board since 2013 and an officer since 2016,
bringing an in-depth knowledge of all things
LTEN. David serves as the head of commercial
learning at UCB Pharma and brings 30 years of
leadership experience across a variety of

commercial roles to his new responsibilities at
LTEN. As an LTEN Board member, David was
instrumental in the development of the
eLearning Lounge, a frequent contributor to
LTEN Focus on Training magazine and the
impetus behind the expanded field sales trainer
efforts at LTEN, which both opens our
organization to new members and better serves
current members. Please join me in
congratulating David on his expanded role! I
am confident we will all benefit from working
with David. You'll find more information on
David's career and an article from David in this
issue, on page 58.
