We figure that you now a) eagerly await the opportunity to apply this knowledge to the information in this second article; and/or b) understand why there always appears to be too many attorneys stirring the pot when negotiating a contract;

and/or c) appreciate why acronyms are used (FCA, Stark, F&A, CMS, CMPL, OIG) instead of long strings of words. Keep in mind that each side is seeking to achieve the best possible deal with the least possible risk of running afoul of federal (and sometimes state) law. In this part two of “Contracting 101,” we want to explore the types of contracts that a medical services professional (MSP) most
often encounters. Our focus is not so much on the contractual details as it is on how these contracts impact your job as an MSP. Having said this, when you do come upon a contract, be sure to always check the following: • Is the contract signed by all of the parties? You would be surprised how many times you may find that the hospital has signed but not the physician (or vice versa).
