NAMSS Bids Farewell to
Executive Director,
Megan Cohen

t is with great fondness that NAMSS says
goodbye to our executive director of five
years, Megan Cohen . Megan has been
instrumental in growing our membership, our
products and services and in extending our
influence among policy-makers and accrediting
organizations . Her most recent achievements include partnering with the board in
the development of NAMSS PASS™ and her work with the editorial team to move
NAMSS SYNERGY to a fully digital publication starting this year . She is much-loved
by members and staff alike, and her unique brand of leadership will be missed .
“After five very happy years with NAMSS I’ve decided to make a change,” says
Megan . “While it was a very difficult decision for me, I believe it’s healthy for
a strong organization to change executives after a five-year period to bring in
someone with new ideas and new perspectives . NAMSS has been a wonderful
home for me and I will miss working with all of you .” Megan has accepted a
promotion within SmithBucklin, NAMSS’ management company, and will transition
into this role over the next few months .
Numerous NAMSS leaders have written to express their appreciation to Megan and
to extend congratulations . Past President Kate Conklin writes, “Megan’s leadership has
had a major impact on the growth of NAMSS over the past few years . Having a solid
foundation on which to build and execute our strategic plan is the key to keeping
NAMSS perpetually strong and poised to respond to our changing environment . I
cannot begin to express my gratitude for her support, guidance and friendship .”
Julie Hatley, chair of the Certification Commission of NAMSS, writes, “Megan’s
promotion is well-deserved . I have been so impressed with the direction that
NAMSS has taken, and the growth and recognition we have earned in the industry .
Megan has built a team of very capable staff to support NAMSS (and CCN) . Thanks
to Megan, I’ve learned a lot about being a better leader .”
Megan will be serving as the interim executive director of NAMSS until the
association hires a new full-time employee to fill this role . She will also be an
integral part of the vetting process to ensure that the progress and momentum that
NAMSS has made throughout the last few years continues under its new leadership .

10 New
Scholarship
Opportunities
in 2013
NAMSS will award more than $5,000 in
scholarships in 2013 . Additionally, the board
has approved additional funding of up to 10
complimentary conference registrations .
Three scholarship opportunities are
available:
1 . Charlotte Cochrane Scholarship Award
— Financial support for an accredited
program of study
2 . Conference scholarships — Financial
support to attend the NAMSS Annual
Conference or a local state annual
conference
3 . Other continuing education
— Financial assistance for CE
opportunities including live and
recorded webinars, online or
in-person courses and education
products
Members must complete the NAMSS
Educational Scholarship application by
June 15 to be considered for Summer/Fall
2013 awards and by December 15 to be
considered for Winter/Spring 2014 awards .
