I am excited for the new year, and
even more excited — and honored — to
serve as the president of NAMSS for 2013 . I
have some pretty large shoes to fill, but I know
the members of this great association will
be behind me every step of the way . As the
previous editor of NAMSS SYNERGY, I am well
aware of the progress NAMSS has achieved
throughout the past few years . As president, I
hope to continue along that path of progress .
We have much to look forward to, and I hope
you are as thrilled as I am to be a part of it!
In 2012, the NAMSS board of directors drafted
a strategic plan with the overarching goal to
educate and guide our membership through
the transformation of the profession . NAMSS
will work to help build members’ vision of the
future, and empower and prepare them for
the upcoming changes and integration of the
industry . We will accomplish this by analyzing
our identity and our relevance by asking the
questions: (1) what do we do; (2) for whom;
and (3) why . During the first year of working
on these goals, NAMSS developed an affiliate
relationship with AHLA Credentialing and Peer
Review Group, which includes the following:
•	 cross promotion of products and events;

•	 AHLA participation in executive-level
pre-conference sessions at the NAMSS
Annual Conference;
•	 Tim Adelman, chair of the AHLA MSCPR
practice group, participation on the NAMSS
conference committee;
•	 inclusion of AHLA articles in SYNERGY;
•	 inclusion of NAMSS articles in the AHLA
MSCPR practice group newsletter;
•	 communication among the education
chairs from AHLA and NAMSS to discuss a
series of joint webinars for 2013;
•	 outreach from the NAMSS Membership
Committee to attorneys in AHLA’s legal
departments encouraging them to join
NAMSS; and
•	 mutual opportunities for exhibit
booth space and representation at
annual conferences .

This year, one of NAMSS’ overarching
goals includes deliberately analyzing and
re-establishing our membership market
and our strategic partners . NAMSS will
achieve this by performing a market
analysis to consider various targets for
membership recruitment and continuing
to partner with organizations that will
yield the most results for the profession .
Secondly, we will work to influence change
positively in the MSP environment and help
members adapt to that change by doing the
following:
•	 actively educating and advocating to
implement the Ideal Credentialing
Solution (ICS);
•	 creating an online, primary-sourced
gap analysis database for MSPs
(NAMSS PASS™); and
•	 preparing members for integration of the
industry, and enhancing the visibility of
MSPs to create greater recognition
within the HR world .
Finally, NAMSS will continue to deliver
products and services in ways that are
convenient and accessible by performing an
audit and prioritizing all NAMSS products
and services and eliminating ineffective
tasks; conducting a technology audit; and
establishing a task force to analyze the
governance structure and suggest changes .
I am excited to use this message to bring you
the advances and progress that NAMSS makes
throughout this year . Through new programs
like NAMSS PASS, we are certain to make the
association’s name more visible in the industry
and bring more awareness to the importance
of credentialing .
