s we grow in our careers and take on
additional responsibilities, it seems
time is the one thing that remains
constant . In this sense, it keeps moving us
forward often faster than we’d like . This
year, I’ve taken on a dual role in my career .
In working at both Centennial Medical
Center & Office and Doctor’s Hospital at
White Rock Lake, in Frisco, Texas, as the
Administrative Director at both locations,
I have learned quite a bit more regarding
fine tuning my time management
orgnaizational skills .
In the last few weeks, the SYNERGY team
has collected, edited and laid out the
content for this May/June issue . It seems
that time has flown; we already have put
three issues of SYNERGY together . This issue
similar to the two previous includes a lot of
great content for MSPs . Our lead feature
“Dealing with Disruptive Physicians: The
Meyers Cases and Their Progeny” comes
from Mark W . Leach, Esq . Leach describes
in detail how the case of one disorderly
physician’s peer review set a precedent
for how The Joint Commission addresses
physician’s disruptive behavior .
Next, Tricia Marriott and Greg Thomas (both
physician assistants) discuss the changes on
the horizon for the ever-growing field of PAs
and how they will be required to receive
their certification moving forward . Along
the lines of credentialing, Mary Hicks and
Connie Riedel remind MSPs of the “Benefits
of an Automated Affiliation Response
System” and how to “Automate Affiliation
Responses with the NAMSS PASSTM .” The
automated response system saves money
and time for MSPs . Now with NAMSS
PASSTM, your staff can automate your
affiliation responses for no charge and save
a ton of time and headaches that happened
previously . It’s all in the name of raising the

bar in patient safety .
Later in the issue, we hear from Molly
Giammarco from our Government Relations
division of NAMSS . She shares “NAMSS
Comments to CMS on the Proposed
CoPs Regulations .” NAMSS established a
volunteer task force to review and comment
on the CMS proposals . Read more on page
26 about NAMSS’ goal to have CMS address
our comments .
We wrap up this issue with “A Message from
the NAMSS Conference Chairman” Susan
DuBois . Susan excitedly announces what’s
in store for members attending the NAMSS
37th Educational Conference & Exhibition in
Hollywood, Florida . Pay particular attention
to the pre-conference sessions listed on
page 26 . Attendees are guaranteed to find
something that fits their needs .
Now it’s time for me to spend some
additional time wrapping up things at
work and catching up on my NAMSS
reading and news . If you have thoughts for
upcoming issues of the publication, please
don’t hesitate to shoot me an email —
John.Pastrano@TenetHealth.com .
Enjoy your spring time!
John Pastrano
