SYNERGY JANUARY/FEBR UARY 2014

Solution, developing a Leadership
Development program and continuing
growth in NAMSS PASS.

NAMSS continues to grow as the expert
in the credentialing arena, and we will
continue to be the voice for our industry.
An upcoming development on the
horizon is the development of our future
NAMSS leaders. We have many members
interested in becoming future leaders in
the local Chapter, State or National level. A
NAMSS Leadership Development Program
will provide guidance and assistance in
becoming a future leader and in developing
your leadership skills. The program will not
just be for prospective leaders-it will also
help reignite and establish new leadership
skills for current NAMSS leaders. We're
currently in the process of creating a task
force, and we are expecting to launch the
NAMSS Leadership Development Program
at the NAMSS 38th Educational Conference
& Exhibition this fall.

I look forward to working with the NAMSS
Board to continue to elevate NAMSS in our
industry, strengthen our brand and continuing
our NAMSS' strategic goals. The NAMSS Board
of Directors is meeting in January 2014 to
review the Strategic Plan and add the goals we
wish to accomplish in the next three years.
In conjunction with the board meeting, we
are also holding a state leadership meeting.
This provides NAMSS National Leadership
an opportunity to work with our state
leaders to help them achieve their respective
state's credentialing goals and objectives.
The states are essential to the grassroots of
what NAMSS really is. The state members
have a great impact on the credentialing
guidelines and rules that we follow.
In the year ahead, I'm also looking forward
to representing NAMSS as the organization's
first male president. This is a major milestone
in NAMSS' history, and I believe it reflects
how our industry is evolving. Our roles
used to be as a secretary position of the
CEO or administrator of the hospital, but
now they have grown into a true profession.
Everyone-males and females-are drawn to
the medical staff and credentialing services
industry. At the NAMSS 37th Educational
Conference & Exhibition in 2013, I was
approached by several men who expressed
interest in serving NAMSS through a
leadership role-so I'm inspired.
What are your goals for the year ahead?
My goals for my term as president include
growing our membership, partnering with
key associations that complement our
profession, including the American Health
Lawyers Association (AHLA), broadening
our recruitment efforts to international
credentialing professionals, further
implementing our Ideal Credentialing

What are some changes on the horizon
that NAMSS members should know about?

How did you get started on your
leadership journey within NAMSS?
What inspired me to get involved in NAMSS
were my peers at Centennial Medical Center
and Doctor's Hospital at White Rock Lake
and my CEO. They saw the passion I had for
my profession. They saw leadership qualities
in me that they thought NAMSS would
benefit from at the National level. The first
position I served was Director at Large.
I was honored and humbled to serve this
membership and continued to give more
and was then elected as an officer. Once
I put my hat in the ring, I was thrilled at the
fact of serving, and I always hoped I would
make it this level.
If a NAMSS member has a suggestion,
question or concern, how can they
contact you?
I am happy to answer questions and am
always interested in your suggestions and
feedback. I can be reached via email at
John.Pastrano@tenethealth.com.
