record the session without alerting the rest of the
participants that the session is being recorded.
Some of these tools are free, and it is likely you
already have them on your computer.

Recording Audio Only: Microsoft Voice Recorder
Microsoft Windows software has had voice
recording capabilities since the time most laptops
and PC's were manufactured with pre-installed
audio microphones. To find Voice Recorder in
Windows 10, use the search bar in the lower left
of your Windows pane and search for " Recorder. "
The app that will appear is preinstalled in Windows
10 and is indicated with a small microphone
icon in a blue square. Click on the icon and you
will see the app itself is very simple, with a large
blue button that will immediately start recording
whatever is coming out of your PC speakers or
audio headset when the button is pushed. When
finished recording, click the blue button again
and the audio recording will be added to a list
on the left side of the app. You can rename the
recording " Today's meeting " or something similar
to help you manage the saved recordings. The
audio-only Voice Recorder is a great tool for live
meetings when you just cannot type notes fast
enough. It also works to record audio files of video
conferencing sessions. It is important to note that
others in the meeting - whether live in-person or
online - will not be notified that the audio portion
of the session is being recorded.

Audio and Video Recording: Snagit Screen
Capture Software by TechSmith
Snagit is just one of many popular tools used for
screen capturing. It will copy and save just about
anything that appears on a computer screen.
Lawyers have used it for years as a reliable tool
for capturing lengthy images and content from
web sites and private social media sites in matters
where the content is part of the controversy and
needs to be captured and preserved for the record.
The tool can also record and save audio and visual
images from almost any source. Once the video is
captured it is converted to an MP4 file and saved
on the user's PC or in the cloud.

Because of trademark and intellectual property
infringement, there are some things Snagit is
programmed not to capture, such as Netflix videos.
However, it will easily capture video conferencing
sessions - again, without alerting session
participants.

Audio and Video Recording Without Limitations:
Windows 10 Game Bar
Xbox Game Bar is a free audio-video recording
app buried deep in your Windows PC that Microsoft
may be hoping you never use. It was created by
Microsoft, also the makers of the popular gaming
platform Xbox, because gamers love to record and
re-live their most successful blast away sessions.
Because the Game Bar software is buried in the
Windows Operating system, it is best to use a search
tool such as Google for instructions on how to
find and open the game bar software within your
Windows PC. Once it is opened and " installed " on
the PC, the computer user can use it for recording
any audio-visual image on the screen, with virtually
no limitations. Recording a video conferencing
session can be easily accomplished with the game
bar tool without any knowledge to the conference
participants.

Be Warned: Recording a Video Conferencing
Session May Not Be Legal
Proceed with caution if you intend to use any
of these recording tools for your business needs.
Any recording of a video conferencing session may
violate wire-tap statutes regulating the use of
recording devices in an electronic communication.
Depending on the jurisdiction where any one of the
participants reside, it may be required for a host or
participant to receive verbal and/or written consent
from all session participants to record the video
conferencing session. In Pennsylvania (and 11 other
states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois,
Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana,
Nevada, New Hampshire, and Washington), all
parties involved need to consent before one of
them can record the conversation.
The Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance
Control Act governs the interception and disclosure
of communications in Pennsylvania.1 Generally, a
person commits a felony of the third degree if he or
she intentionally intercepts, discloses the contents
of, or uses the contents of any wire, electronic, or oral
communication.2 There are numerous exceptions
to the general prohibition of intercepting and
