insight by Gregory Sharpless Gregory Sharpless Editor/Associate Publisher Britney Grimmelsman Associate Editor Flotsam and Jetsam First o , let’s get this out of the way: I did not win the $640 million in the recent Mega Millions Lottery (or any part of that tidy sum). As a result, I’m afraid you will have to endure my editorial ramblings on this page for some time to come. If, by the way, you were indeed one of the three winners of the Mega prize-winnings, and you happen to be a BPIC subscriber, don’t forget to include your favorite magazine’s editorial sta in your last will and testament, eh? Now, on to business: • Media + Ink Sourcebook: Long-time readers are familiar with our Printer Sourcebook, which provides comprehensive specs on the array of rollfed, flatbed and hybrid printers, and RIPs. Now, we’ve produced our new Media + Ink Sourcebook, which assembles nearly 400 sources for: vinyl, paper, fi lms, and self-adhesives; specialty media; rigid substrates; and inks for wide format. This latest invaluable resource is available directly via’s home page (in the main nav bar, click on Resources). • Digital edition news: I certainly hope you’re taking advantage of the digital edition of The Big Picture. We’re now on the Nxtbook platform, which allows us to offer several benefits to readers, including: mobile delivery to iPads, iPhones, Android devices, tablets, and more; sharing to LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; the ability to integrate video, audio, and slideshows; search across current and archived issues; live links; and much more. In short, you can enjoy a much richer reading experience. Our most recent digital edition can be found here: Not receiving the digital edition? You can sign up here: • ISA Expo: The Orlando event, held in late March, was a nice way for the industry to welcome the spring buying season. The exhibit floor boasted nearly 550 exhibitors – 87 of these making their ISA Expo debut – and 75 educational sessions. “It is clear that our industry is getting back to work, purchasing new equipment, and investigating new business opportunities,” says Lori Anderson, ISA president and CEO. Our in-depth recap of the show will appear in our next issue, and look for coverage online, at, as well. • Drupa 2012: The quadrennial event takes place May 3-14 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Big Picture’s editorial staff will be in attendance during the first full week of the show, and we’ll report details on the latest-and-greatest technologies being highlighted during this international 19-hall graphics extravaganza – both online and in print.
