ITMA, the global exhibition of textile and

garment technologies held every four years,
has announced a special focus on automation in
garment manufacturing for its 2019 show in
Barcelona. Buzzing technologies include robotics,
artificial intelligence, and more.
"The garment-making industry is labor intensive
and associated with low productivity. Things are
set to change," says Fritz Mayer, president of
CEMATEX, the company that owns the ITMA show,
in a release. "Manufacturers fast enough to ride
the digital wave will find new opportunities and
gain an edge over their competitors."
"The digitization of the fashion industry means
that suppliers will need to seamlessly integrate
their design, material supply, and production of
the finished products," adds A.E. Roberts,
managing director of ITMA Services.
The show is scheduled for June 20-26 at Fira
de Barcelona.

LAUNCHES
US EVENT
The Inkjet Conference (TheIJC), a joint collaboration
between ESMA, Digital Direct Technologies, and drupa, has
announced the launch of a US-based event April 12-13 at The
Westin O'Hare in Chicago. The organizers report more than
40 percent of the exhibition space is already booked, and 300
OEMs, developers, engineers, chemists, researchers, and
brand owners are expected to attend.
Programming will feature presentations from both
industry and academic experts on how inkjet technology
affects current and future manufacturing processes. Topics
include printhead developments, ink components and finished
ink, lab equipment for measurement and analysis, curing and
drying systems, software electronics and integration, vision
systems for inspection and verification, and more.

CLOUD-BASED AUTOMATION
PrintFactory has released a study entitled "Redefining wide-format workflows to realize revenue at every opportunity."
The report examines the benefits of adopting cloud-based automation and explores possible reasons why, according to
InfoTrends, 92 percent of North American print shops still rely on touchpoint technologies.
The paper cites the five factors that influence the pace and extent of technology adoption according to The McKinsey
Global Institute's "A Future that Works:" technical feasibility, cost of developing and deploying solutions, labor market
dynamics, economic benefits, and regulatory and social acceptance. The authors find it's this last factor that often becomes
a sticking point.
