WHY DID CANON INTRODUCE THE OCÉ COLORADO
1640 PRINTER?
Canon recognized that large-format graphic print service
providers were being compromised in their business
operations by the current inkjet technologies available to
them in eco-solvent and latex 64-inch roll printers. Print
speed was restricted by how quickly prints could be dried
and unattended operation was not really possible. In
addition, printing costs for ink were relatively high and
thinner plastic-based media could not be printed on due
to the high heat required to dry inks.
Canon developed a game-changing new ink technology
called UVgel that negates these compromises PSPs have had
to make. The Océ Colorado 1640 printer offers the highest print
speeds, unattended operation with new levels of automation,
the lowest cost of operation, and the ability to print on all
common media as well as new thinner plastic-based media
such as styrene without warping or buckling. In addition, this
new printer was designed as a productive workhorse with an
industrially designed platform delivering a high print duty cycle.
The UVgel inks provide the largest color gamut of any ink
technology delivering exceptional image quality. In addition,
the unique printing and cold LED curing process significantly
lowers ink consumption needed per square foot of print.

SUPPORT CANON'S VISION?
We have seen an ongoing reduction in print turnaround times
for large-format graphics. According to recent InfoTrends
studies, customers expecting less than a 24-hour turnaround
time went from 41 percent in 2013 to 61 percent in 2017, with
79 percent of PSPs surveyed indicating this trend will continue.
The survey also indicated that print quality, printer
reliability, print running costs, media capabilities, and print
speed were the top buying criteria when deciding to invest
in new printing technology.
