Logobook
Compilation is a study of culture through the symbols
and trademarks of brands.

I

nspired by the Academy Award-winning
animated short "Logorama," Logobook
focusing on the use of logos and brands
became a point of reference for corporate
culture. To tell the story of our times through
the products and services that surround us on
a daily basis, studio director and co-director
of the film Ludovic Houplain conducted a
yearlong research project, collecting more
than 40,000 symbols and trademarks that

represent our world today.
The archive Houplain amassed is the
foundation of this logo reference guide from
Taschen (www.taschen.com), featuring
approximately 7,000 specimens organized
alphabetically, with information about the
designers, year of creation, country, brand,
and company. Moreover, the book includes
an extensive critical essay on brand culture
by French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky.

ColorForward 2015
Clariant's (www.clariant.com) annual color-direction guide for plastics can help
packaging designers convey a sense of luxury. The 9th color forecasting guide-
ColorForward 2015-defines trends that will attract people's attention and pave
the hue palette for 2015. "As a natural element, color has the power to transcend
and translate cultural, political, religious and social influences. As a tool, it has
the power to communicate emotions and stories succinctly. And in the world of
plastics, it acts as the ideal marketing driver to steer consumers' purchasing
choices for the future," comments Judith van Vliet, designer at ColorWorks
Europe/IMEA.
ColorForward color predictions are based on intensive research of the most
influential societal trends around the world. The creative process includes indepth presentations from ColorWorks centers all over the world, where regional
trends and influences are explored. Experts from the world's major trend-watching organizations, and color experts from diverse creative industries contribute to
the process.

Working with the library of case
studies and research reports found in
the "Members Only" section of its
website (www.fsea.com), the Foil &
Specialty Effects Association
(FSEA) has created an informational
marketing kit that showcases different uses of foil stamping, embossing,
die-cutting and other specialty decorating techniques. The Marketing
Kit also includes a golf ball sample
box that demonstrates the use of foil
stamping and embossing to increase
