HP’s 2010 revenue reached $126 billion. Today, the company offers a complete technology-product portfolio that ranges from handheld devices to powerful, super-computer installations. It offers varying products and services – digital photography to digital entertainment, personal desk and laptop computers to business computing systems, home-based photo printing to grand-format print systems – all designed to match the right products, services and solutions to its customers’ specific needs. At a Glance: The versatile, HP Scitex LX850, a six-color (CMYKLcLm), 1,200 x 1,200-dpi, 126-in.-wide, productionpurpose, grand-format printer, features four speed modes that relate to job classes. Also, it processes the new HP LX610 Latex Scitex ink blend that provides outdoor-durable, odorless prints on uncoated media that are scratch, smudge and water-resistant. HP lists acceptable media as banners, self-adhesives, films, fabrics (which includes flags without liners) paper, mesh and specialty media. The LX850 printer will accept single rolls up to 126 in. wide and double rolls up to 60 in. wide. It also features a media-assist loading device and a double-sided print system equipped with HP’s Optical Media Advance Sensor (OMAS). The LX850 is an excellent choice for high-production shops that want environmentally safe printing, print/media versatility, vibrant colors and strong ink density. Its environmental operation range is 59º to 86º F; the operating humidity is 20 to 70% RH (non-condensing). Print quality and speed The LX850 features four speed modes that relate to job classes. Fast forward to see the company’s recently introduced HP Scitex LX800 printer that uses HP’s odorless, hazardous air pollutant (HAP) free, water-based latex inks to produce signs, soft signage, displays, wallpaper and vehicle wraps with three-year unlaminated (fiveyear laminated) permanence. Expectedly, HP moved its latex-ink technology forward into other printer systems and recently introduced its latex-ink-based, HP Scitex LX850 printer. The latex-ink system requires only normal room ventilation. The latex-ink advantage Latex ink provides outdoor-durable, odorless prints on uncoated media that are scratch, smudge and water resistant. Also, HP’s new, LX610 Latex Scitex ink blend features a 7% gamut increase, plus stronger blacks and higher glossiness, on applicable media. The LX850 printer’s media-drying system ensures all prints are dry and ready for lamination, straight from the printer. The company says you can print with HP latex inks on HP PVC-free wallpaper and, thereby, offer odorless, indoor, wall decorations that are Greenguard Environmental Institute (GEI) Children and Schools certified and meet the German/EU Committee for health assessment of construction (AgBB) criteria for health-related evaluation of VOC emissions of indoor building products.
