SGIA Expo 2012 Specialty Zones highlight this Las Vegas convention By Wade Swormstedt The Specialty Graphics Imaging Assn.’s SGIA Expo 2012 will be held October 18-20 at the Las Vegas (NV) Convention Center. As of late August, SGIA reported that 97% of the available exhibit space had been sold to 496 exhibitors. Last year’s show attracted 16,306 attendees from 97 countries, with 14.5% of attendees having come from outside the U.S. Among attendees to the 2011 show, 60.2% said they produce signs/posters; 58.8% banners; 33.6% vehicle wraps, and 22.3% transit advertising. Exhibit-hall hours will be 9:30 5:00 the first two days, and 9:30 4:30 on the final day. All of the educational sessions will be held the first two days. Educational opportunities The show will be highlighted by six educational zones. The SGIA website declares these to be “No dealing. All learning.” (see p.92) Between the Zone sessions and paid educational courses, SGIA will offer more than 100 choices, all of which can be accessed at its 2012 Expo Planner. The five tracks are Graphics & Sign, Graphics Installers, Business Management, Industrial Imaging, and Garment Decoration. Click on the arrow to view a list of the selected track sessions. Keynote speaker The keynote breakfast speaker, Todd Cohen, will present “Sales and More Sales for Specialty Imaging” from 8:30 to 10:00 on Friday morning. The cost is $35 for SGIA members and $40 for non-members. He provides “Sales Culture Workshops”, and his book on sales culture, Everyone’s In Sales, was published in July 2011. Also, Todd has hosted his own radio show, “Let’s Talk Sales Culture.” Products of the Year SGIA will also host its customary Product of the Year competition. The 12 overall categories fall under four main categories. Judging for all categories will be held Wednesday, October 17.
