INDUSTRY NEWS Noteworthy Mutoh Appoints Zaferis as Western Regional Sales Manager Mutoh America (Phoenix) has appointed Peter Zaferis as its Western regional sales manager. He will work under the guidance of director of sales Gary Rudnick. Previously, Zaferis was the director of operations for GraphicsOne, a distributor of digital-printing equipment that included Mutoh wide-format printers. Rachel Hammer has joined the company as a product manager for rotary devices, which includes Roland milling and engraving machines. She was previously a designer for Fusion of Ideas, an Irvinebased engraving company. Hammer earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art from California State University, Fullerton. Marc Malkin has joined Roland as a public-relations representative/ copywriter. With more than 15 years of agency and corporate/PR experience, Malkin most recently served two fishing-tackle manufacturers, Daiwa and Silstar. Ron Kienast, a 12-year Roland veteran, has been promoted to manager of purchasing and distribution. Previously Roland’s distribution manager, he will now also be responsible for the purchasing department’s operation, including process, budget and personnel. Kienast joined Roland in 1999 as warehouse Kienast Malkin Hammer supervisor. HP Expands Atlanta-area Graphic Arts Experience Center HP (Palo Alto, CA) has expanded its Graphic Arts Experience Center to include the new HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press, HP T230 Color Inkjet Web Press and HP partner finishing solutions. The facility, near Atlanta in Alpharetta, GA, offers customers, brand owners and prospects hands-on experience with HP’s end-to-end, large-format printing solutions. The facility also offers training classes and customer events to help print-service providers learn how to maximize use of HP products. MagX America Open House Showcases New Location MagX America (Cincinnati) held an open house September 6 at its new headquarters. More than 80 guests Cooley Chairman Siener Celebrates 65th Anniversary Cooley Group (Pawtucket, RI) has announced that its chairman, P. Robert Siener, Jr., celebrated 65 years with the company on Monday, September 17. During his tenure, the company has evolved from a sign and awning manufacturer to a multi-faceted enterprise with facilities in more than 20 countries. Recent notable initiatives include designing Times Square’s first solarpowered billboard and developing a sustainable stadium wrap for the London 2012 Olympics Siener (see Olympic signage coverage on page 56). Siener joined Cooley in 1947 following tours of duty with the U.S. Navy, including landing on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy, and subsequently serving a tour of duty in the Pacific Theatre. He served as Cooley’s president from 1960 to 2011, before assuming his current role as chairman of Cooley, where he works alongside president and CEO, Daniel Dwight. attended the event. In business since 1965, the company has worldwide sales of more than $100 million of flexible magnetic material, which is used for signage and advertising specialties, as well as automotive and industrial components. MagX also operates three logistic facilities in California, Georgia and Ohio. Manufacturing and distribution facilities are also located throughout Europe and Asia. Nova Polymers Announces Free Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Nova Polymers (West Caldwell, NJ) has announced a program in which it will recycle inkjet cartridges at no charge.
