USSC 2013 Design Awards Diverse projects claim victory in the organization's competition. By Steve Aust The United StatesannualCouncil Sign (USSC) staged its Design Awards competition. Judges John Maxman, proprietor of JHM Signs (Alpha, NJ), and Adam Yorston, principal of Yorston and Assoc. (Hellertown, PA), a sign-industry manufacturers' representative and consultant, served as its judges. Here's a gallery of select victors. (Boise, ID) Mark Bachman, Designer Metro Express Car Wash The customer, Bill Martin, operates three Metro Express car washes in the Boise, ID area, and Golden West's sign reflects Metro's status as having been voted the best car wash in Treasure Valley. The 34-ft.-tall sign is illuminated by EGL 15mm horizon-blue tubing with argon gas and EGL 15mm green, pumped-red or copper-gold luminous glass. A Dynapac K-200 rotator spins the 5-ft.-tall "M" and 7-ft.-tall ring. Golden West also fabricated the site's wayfinding and pay-station signage. 68 SIGNS OF THE TIMES / DECEMBER 2013 /
