GableSigns' Casino Signs Projects in Maryland and Ohio B y Wa d e S w o r m s t e d t T he Maryland Live! Casino, a $500 million gaming and entertainment destination, located at the Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover, MD, opened June 6, 2012. Developed and owned by The Cordish Companies, the property was fully developed by October 2012. Included is Rams Head Center Stage, which offers nightly live entertainment (hence the casino's name), and more than 4,300 slot machines and electronic table games, which, according to the company, made it the third-largest commercial casino in the U. S. By the end of the year, it offered 24/7 gaming. Live-action table games were added last year, along with a 50-table, two-level poker room, which opened in August. Restaurants include The Cheesecake Factory, Phillips Seafood and Bobby's Burger Palace (from chef Bobby Flay), and The Prime Rib, the top Zagatrated steakhouse. The parking garage can accommodate 5,000 cars. GableSigns & Graphics (Baltimore) fabricated and installed a cohesive system of main-ID signs, directional signs, channel letters and flexible-face supergraphics for the casino's exterior. Here is a gallery of the signage, which was designed by David Carter Design Assoc. (Dallas) with an assist from GableSigns' Project Development, Design and Creative Team, who all used CorelDraw!. 56 SIGNS OF THE TIMES January 2014 (Top) The 14-ft.-high x 20-ft.-tall, double-faced, main-ID monument sign features custom-shaped, aluminum fashioned over a steel frame. The LED pucks morph color changes on three sides of the sign's frosted-acrylic border as the sign visually pulsates. The LED channel letters are mounted on the two-tone grey cabinet. Akzo-Nobel automotive-grade paint decorates and protects the steel. (Above) The 14 x 14-ft., single-faced, exterior directory sign utilizes essentially the same production methodologies and construction, but the individual retailers' copy is routed out and filled with pushedthrough acrylic. Electronic digital displays using LEDs illuminate the numerals that specify the number of available parking spaces.
