Finding a New "Employee" at ISA Sign Expo
As a small business owner with four employees, increasing productivity is always
important. So when Mandy Wisner of Southern
Signs, Inc., added a new printer, it was like
adding a new hire.
"For a small company, that says a lot. We
just sit back and watch it work," she said.
"We were looking at flatbed printers and
there are so many to choose from. It's really
cool to come to ISA Sign Expo and see things
actually working and see what's going to
work for your business. I needed something
kind of specific and I was able to find that.
It's been wonderful."
Adding the new flatbed printer "opened up
another avenue of income. We didn't screen
print, but we wanted to be able to help out
during political seasons. Now we can print
directly to substrates."
It's hardly the first time she's come to ISA
Sign Expo to seek out new products to help
grow her small business. When she and her
husband purchased Southern Signs, Inc.,
from family members in 1999, she had little
knowledge of the industry.
Still, making such a significant capital expenditure can be risky for a small business. So
Wisner sought out options at ISA Sign Expo
2014. By 2015, the new "employee" was
generating revenue while she was in Las Vegas.
It's been a theme ever since.
"We've been coming to ISA Sign Expo for
quite a while. I've always liked to come and
see what's going on in the industry, see new
products, meet new people who speak your
language. You get this many people together
who know the lingo, you can't get that anywhere else."
Within a few months, she was looking to expand.
"We ended up purchasing a printer and a
plotter and started from scratch. We had two
days of training and everything else I learned
in the books and by doing it."
Attending the expo each year is about more
than the products, though. "There's so much
you can get from it. The networking. The education. You always go home with valuable
information." |
"It was another great ISA International Sign Expo. We left the show with many new business leads and sold
several pieces of equipment while on-site in Las Vegas. We're already looking forward to next year!"
