CNC ROUTERS
AXYZ Automation

AXYZ Automation (Burlington, ON, Canada) produces the following
CNC-routing machines:
* The 2000 Series, a three-axis machine (the X and Y axes operate
with a rack-and-pinion system, and the Z axis incorporates a
ballscrew drive) that provides a 28 x 48-in. work surface (table
extensions are available in 24-in. increments) and a standard, 6-in.
gantry clearance - with optional 8-, 10- and 12-in. clearances available - 4 GB onboard memory, a seven-segment motion profile, true
NC control with the company's SmartConsole, an FPGA processor
for high-speed calculations and 1,000-ipm positioning speed (optional
capabilities of 1,500 and 2,000 ipm are available);
* The 4000 Series, which features a 5 x 8-ft. work surface and similar
features to the 2000 (as do the following routers);
* The 5000 Series, which offers a 6 x 10-ft. work surface;
* The 6000 Series, which uses a 6 ft. 10 in. x 10-ft. work surface;
* The 8000 Series, which provides a 9 ft. 3 in. x 10-ft. work surface;
* The 10000 Series, which allows a 10 ft. 6-in.-wide work surface
(6 ft. long);

AXYZ 6000 Series

Available options for the 2000 to 10000 Series include drilling options,
collet spindles and direct-drive servo motors for all axes, multiple
routing heads and an AVS vision-registration system, among others.

Computerized Cutters

Computerized Cutters (Plano, TX) offers four models of its AccuCut CNC router, which are designed to cut aluminum, plastic,
wood and similar substrates:
* The KR, which comprises a welded-steel frame, a 5HP Perske
high-frequency Spindle or a 3.25 HP Porter Cable router, dualX-axis, stepper or servo motor drive, high-speed Pentium PC
with a 17-in. monitor, and cutting speeds of up to 600 in. per
minute, a joystick pendant and a toolpath that can be viewed
in real time among other features. Available options include a
vacuum table, a dual head-misting system, the Vision registration system, automatic tool changer and a touchscreen display;
* The XP and XPS, which offers similar features to the KR, but
has a heavier steel frame, and contains a 5HP, high-frequency
Perske spindle, dual-X-axis stepper or servo motor drive with
cutting speeds of up to 700 in. per minute. The same options
are available;
* The WS, which offers similar features and options to the XPS,
but operates with a heavier steel frame and gantry, and more
powerful and faster servo motors reportedly accurate to 0.001 in.
All worktable sizes and features are customizable.

ShopBot Tools Inc. (Raleigh, NC) manufactures the PRSAlpha, which features
fast, closed-loop, Vexta alphaStep motors
fitted with low-backlash, taped-hob gear
heads on all three axes, touch precision
bearings with hardened-steel rails on
each axis, a maximum cutting speed of
600 in. per minute, and a maximum, noncutting speed of 1,800 in. per minute.
According to the company, the machine
is easy to configure and use, and provides
full-production fabrication of wood, plastic, aluminum and other materials. The
equipment also includes control-system
software, as well as a design-software
suite that facilitates toolpathing. ShopBot
offers PRSAlpha routers with cutting
areas of 48 x 48, 48 x 96, 60 x 96, 60 x 120
and 60 x 144 in.
