But, does print speed tell the whole story, or should you ask a few more questions? For example, how much time is the printer down for daily or weekly maintenance? How much time does it take to load a roll of media? How long does it take the ink to dry before you can laminate the print? Epson's newest print machines, the 64-in.-wide SureColor S-Series, advance the company's reputation for producing outstanding image quality but, even more, they address many of the time thieves that rob shops of profit and opportunity. Machine maintenance, for example, or media loading and alignment, or the long waits for solvent ink to dry before you can laminate the image. The SureColor S-Series line comprises three models, the SC-S40600, SC-S60600 and SC-S80600. The SC-S80600 is the top line printer, the other two models have the lion's share of its features but are primarily four-color machines; the SC-S40600 offers a CMYK ink set and the SC-S60600 offers dual CMYK. The SC-S80600 features 10 ink colors (CMYKlclmlk plus orange and red) and an optional choice of either a white or metallic-silver ink. The orange and red inks extend the color gamuts and the gray ink allows cost-saving fills. The SC-S80600 also features a Dual-Array Epson PrecisionCore TFP printhead that produces up to 1,440 x 1,440 dpi resolution with Epson's Precision Dot technology that provides high speed printing with virtually no banding; you can also produce true 720 dpi (per color) in a single pass. The company also devised a straightforward cleaningcloth routine that, when employed daily, eliminates ink build-up in the ink station, thus cutting maintenance, generally, to less than 10 minutes. In addition, the SC-S80600 incorporates a strengthened framework and stand. Its enhanced media system features 40 individual media-feed rollers that work in conjunction with five independent pinch rollers and automatic media-tension and motor-torque adjustments (the system senses and reacts to media size and weight), all of which ensures accurate media progress. The printer also incorporates Epson's new UltraChrome GS3 solvent inks that image on practically any media. These inks do not require special ventilation and, under proper conditions, can be laminated six hours after printing.
