4. Environmental Regulations Cannot Be Ignored
Concerns about the environment are mounting, and they
continue to influence consumers' and businesses' practices.
As we move forward into a new decade, business regulations
on ink formulation, media construction, and hardware energy
consumption will become even more prominent and will
likely be more strictly enforced.
On the consumer side, awareness about the environment is
increasing on a global level. People want to purchase products
from manufacturers that are working to reduce their impact
on the environment. According to a KPI survey of FESPA
attendees, over a third of consumers are seeking PSPs that
offer environmentally friendly products and practices.
Additionally, this same study indicates that over three-quarters
of PSPs consider customer requirements for environmentally
friendly products and services to be extremely, very, or
somewhat influential on their businesses.
Concerns about the environment are a global issue; a similar
survey of APPPExpo attendees in China revealed that 75% of
customers are seeking greener printing options.
To accommodate these growing demands on a global basis,
manufacturers of printers, ink, and media are working to
develop even more eco-friendly solutions. This trend is only
expected to accelerate over the next decade and beyond.
5. Indoor Applications Will Become More Prominent
Due to an ongoing shift toward social media-based advertising
and digital display signage, outdoor signs and out-of-home
advertisements are no longer as dominant as they were in
the past. Indoor applications, on the other hand, are becoming
increasingly popular.
Indoor retail advertisements and interior wall coverings are
becoming quite popular and profitable, creating additional
avenues for today's PSPs. These high-end applications can
sell at a premium and can also be produced with all durable
ink technologies, including latex, solvent, UV, and sublimation.
