Old Montreal

It may be the 8th largest city in North America, but
parts of Montreal are best explored on foot. Set
between the St. Lawrence River and the skyscrapers of
downtown, the historic city center is an ideal starting
point. Stroll the cobbled streets and narrow alleys off
St. Paul Street, linger at a café in Place Jacques-Cartier
and stop to admire the silver-domed Marché Bonsecours,
built in the 1840s as the city's main market.

Château Ramezay
Located in the heart of Old Montreal, the Musée du
Château Ramezay was named by UNESCO as one of
the 1,001 historic sites you must see before you die.
A portal to the past, the Museum of Montreal was
built in the 18th century as a prestigious residence
for Montreal's French governor. Today it houses more
than 500 years of history, along with an impressive
collection of Québec art.

Jean-Talon Market
A short ride on the orange line of the metro will get you
to one of the oldest public markets in the city. In the
middle of Little Italy, Marché Jean-Talon is a daily stop
for many of Montreal's top chefs and a favorite shopping excursion of Montrealers. Wander through stalls
selling all sorts of produce, pastries, ice cream, cheese
and, of course, maple syrup.

Brasseur de Montréal
Hop back on the orange line and head to one of the
city's best microbreweries. Sample some of the local
favorites at the resto-bar-a favorite of Peter McAuslan,
founder of McAuslan Brewing (Québec's ﬁrst
micro-brewery).

La Banquise
No trip to Montreal is complete without sampling
poutine-a French Canadian dish traditionally made of
French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. La
Banquise specializes in the Québécois favorite, offering
over 30 variations on the dish. Stick with La Classique
or try the La Dan Dan, topped with pepperoni, bacon
and onions.
