AAA Travel Specialist Kay McGarity helped a Charlotte couple plan two cruises, four flights, three
European tours and a ride through the Chunnel-all in one summer voyage.

GOAL: To cruise from NYC to Europe for
an adventure-packed, 9-week vacation
MUST HAVES: Experiencing the Edinburgh
Military Tattoo; taking a transatlantic cruise
TRAVEL TYPE: Independent, tours and cruises
THE CHALLENGE: Kana and Young Chin love to travel-
sometimes three or four times in one year. Visiting the Royal
Edinburgh Military Tattoo has always been on Young's list,
and when they heard a Trafalgar Tours presentation about an
upcoming "Best of Ireland and Scotland" two-week trip that
incorporated the Tattoo in August, they were excited to go. They
wanted to spend more time in Europe, though, so we also booked
the "Switzerland and Austria" and "Best of Holland, Belgium and
Luxembourg" tours. To add to all that, Kana wanted to bookend
their travels with transatlantic cruises from NYC to London and back!
THE HEAVY LIFTING: It was like putting together a puzzle. My
biggest challenge was scheduling the transitions between the two
cruises and three tours, which included hotel stays, flights and a
Chunnel ride. There were also some logistical considerations. For
example, the Chins love to dance and were looking forward to the
cruise's formal nights but didn't want to haul their formal attire
all around Europe. So I called the cruiseline and arranged for
them to store their luggage for two months.
A-LIST VACATION: "I've always wanted
to go on a transatlantic cruise," Kana says.
"And once we were there, we wanted to
see as much as we could! Each town has
its own flavor. There are places we'd
love to go back to one day."
