TRIP NOTES 13 Baggage Basics Follow these 13 load-lightening expert tips and you're sure to bring along everything you need on your next cruise. Even better, you'll be able to find it! BY ALEXIS MOORE 1. For the typical one- to two-week cruise, a 24-inch rolling suitcase, a 16-inch rolling tote and a small tote or backpack should give you all the room you need. 2. Comfortable sneakers may be bulky, so consider wearing them on travel days to free that suitcase space for other versatile shoes, such as a pair of sandals, which can do double-duty poolside and at a casual dinner. 3. Cruise lines usually provide shampoo and conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. If you prefer your own, pack travel-size versions. 4. Plan your outfits; you'll be less tempted to add unnecessary items. 9. Cruise ship cabins often come equipped with international plug sockets. Pack a plug adapter if you plan to charge smartphones or tablets. PACKING FOR A cruise 5. Throw in that little black dress! You can wear it more than once(most cruise lines provide a laundry service) plus jewelry and a few scarves or belts to transform your look and take up little space. 6. Men should consider khakis and a navy sport coat-it goes with everything and is easy to dress up or dress down. 7. Cruises offer fresh beach/ pool towels and bath towels; leave yours at home. 16 VISIT YOUR LOCAL AAA OFFICE 8. Absolutely pack a book or two. If you forget, visit the ship's library right away while the options are still plentiful. CALL 1-800-750-5386 10. Planning to shop in port? Silverstein suggests packing a foldable duffel that you can fill with souvenirs and check on the return flight. 11. Consult your cruise line's individual policy on bringing aboard liquor or other bottled beverages; they'll likely prefer you frequent their bars. 12. Traveling with kids? Fill their bags! All children, even babies, get the same allowance as adults. 13. Finally, don't worry about a back-up outfit or an extra pair of flip flops. You can always shop onboard for items left behind.
