Looking Ahead

It's still hard to believe the impact COVID-19 made on
our world this past year - especially within the travel
community. Nowhere has that impact been felt more
than in the cruise industry, as we rapidly approach a year
of ships sitting idly in ports or at sea. We're all anxiously
awaiting the day we can safely embark a ship and sail to
our destination of choice. Each of our cruise line partners
remains committed to the safety of both their guests and
crew upon the return to sailing, while continuing to work
within the guidelines set forth by the CDC.
Even in the midst of our current pandemic, cruising continues to grow and evolve. Viking Cruises, widely known
for their popular ocean and river cruises, is launching expedition cruises with two new ships (page 4). Expedition
cruises offer intimate experiences in remote locations thanks to smaller ships with fewer passengers. This certainly
appeals to those of us seeking a more socially distant option.
While a cruise vacation may be farther down the road for some, domestic travel remains quite popular. As the
world grows accustomed to new travel procedures and protocols, more people are considering the idea of taking a
much-needed vacation a bit closer to home. From visiting iconic national parks to planning off-season beach
vacations, families are finding many ways to explore and connect safely. Road trips are a popular choice for many
- and will likely remain so throughout 2021.
Rail vacations are another option for those wanting to explore more of our own back yard. Rocky Mountaineer
Vacations, a Canada-based AAA preferred travel partner, recently announced luxury train journeys to the Southwest
United States in 2021 (page 26). Their " Rockies to the Red Rocks " route travels from Denver, Colorado, and Moab,
Utah, with an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Passengers can expect regional cuisine, awe-inspiring
vistas and spacious, glass-domed coaches, which are hallmarks of a Rocky Mountaineer rail journey.
If warm sands and ocean breezes are calling you, consider spending time on Bermuda's iconic pink beaches (page
32). The country is open for visitors (who provide a negative COVID-19 test result). Additionally, like many
destinations, Bermuda has put various health and safety protocols in place to ensure a worry-free trip. Health
requirements vary from country to country - and even state to state - so, it's good to stay in touch with your AAA
Travel Agent who can provide the latest requirements for wherever it is you wish to go.
