Flow rounds at least twice daily and case managers empowered to coordinate care across the continuum can significantly improve ED performance. “During these rounds, the entire care team spends one to two minutes per patient, talking about the plan of care, the patient’s current status, any barriers to discharge, and what needs to happen to move that patient forward efficiently through the care continuum.” 19 AACN BOLD VOICES AUGUST 2013 AACN Members, Friends Inducted as AANP Fellows embers and friends of the AACN community were honored as leaders in advanced practice nursing when they were inducted as Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP). Joining Cindy Munro, coeditor of the American Journal of Critical Care, among AANP’s 60 new fellows are Steve Branham, Andrea Brassard, Margaret Glembocki, Katherine Kenny, Christine Kessler, Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, Angela Nelson, Joanne Thanavaro and Chris Winkleman. They were inducted during the association’s 28th National Conference in Las Vegas. According to an AANP press release, “AANP established the FAANP program in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through clinical practice, research, education, or policy. Fellows of the AANP are visionaries and, as such, hold an annual think tank to strategize about the future of nurse practitioners and health care … The new FAANP members will continue the tradition of impacting national and global health through their outstanding contributions.” On Jan. 1, 2013, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (founded in 1985) and the American College of Nurse Practitioners (founded in 1995) came together as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the largest full-service national professional membership organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties.
