AACN Mission and business goals aligned. Financial position strong. “CEO transitions bring challenges and opportunities,” says Vicki Good, AACN president. “There is the challenge of ensuring a seamless transition. And the opportunity to build on a solid foundation of landmark accomplishments.” Good explains that “AACN’s mission and business goals complement each another as never before. We’re financially strong. That’s why our community has been able to underwrite mission-centered strategies such as unlimited CNE credit, free webinars on hot clinical topics and the national pilot of the AACN Clinical Scene Investigator Academy. We’ve also kept member dues and NTI registration fees unchanged for more than a decade.” Wanda Johanson announced just before the 2013 National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition that she plans to retire by the new year. “There are so many things I want to do and so many places I want to visit. I’m healthy, active and curious. So is AACN. So why not make the change now?” Johanson told the AACN board of directors and staff. To ensure a seamless leadership transition, the board of directors has appointed a high-level search committee and asked Johanson to remain as CEO until the search is completed. “I think this is important, and I’m delighted to help ensure stability during the transition,” Johanson says. “AACN is so much a part of who I am that I’ll always remain active in this exceptional community,” she adds. “I know I’ll contribute to our future growth and success in new ways.” A Pool of Exceptional Talent “The AACN community is a breathtaking pool of exceptional talent,” says Immediate Past President Kathryn Roberts, who leads the CEO search committee. “This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned executive from our community to step forward. Someone who knows, understands and is passionate about our mission and vision and wants to make a significant national impact on nursing and healthcare during these times of fast-paced change.” Critical for success is a visionary leader and strategic thinker who can form strong internal and external partnerships because of his or her skill in building trust and creating healthy work environments. The search committee will review potential candidates with the final interviews and selection made by the AACN board of directors.
