AACN AACN Chapters Model Excellence C ircle of Excellence awards recognize and showcase excellent outcomes in the care of acutely and critically ill patients and their families. The annual awards recognize how AACN chapters make a difference in healthcare and their communities by demonstrating excellence in collaboration, educational programming, leadership development, promoting the value of certification, community education and public service. Recipients of the President's Award for Chapters, selected by AACN President Vicki Good, are honored for effective integration of this year's theme, "Step Forward," in chapter activities and programs. The Excellence in Leadership Development award is presented in memory of Sharon Connor, AACN director of membership and chapters from 1985 to 1997, for her advocacy of volunteerism and dedication to the success of chapters. This year's Chapter Circle of Excellence recipients were honored during May's National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in Denver: Excellence in Collaboration: AACN Chapter at UCLA, Los Angeles; Broward County Chapter, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Greater Boston Chapter for collaboration with other chapters and external groups Excellence in Community Education & Public Service: Albuquerque (N.M.) Chapter and San Francisco Chapter for outstanding public service and community education contributions to support AACN's mission, vision and values Excellence in Educational Programming: Denver Chapter; Northwest Chicago Area Chapter, Arlington Heights, Ill.; San Diego Area Chapter; and West Houston Chapter, Katy, Texas, for high-quality educational programming to acute and critical care nurses Excellence in Leadership Development: Greater Portland (Ore.)
