The month of June also brings two new mounts to Sky-Watcher:
the AZ-GTe and HEQ5.
New to the Sky-Watcher family is the portable AZ-GTe! This portable yet
powerful alt-az tracking mount opens up a new world of wireless technology
- by using Sky-Watcher's proprietary smartphone app in lieu of a bulky
hand controller. The multi-purpose AZ-GTe combines Sky-Watcher's 42,000+
object SynScan GoTo technology with more conventional video time-lapse and
panoramic features, creating a small mount that packs a powerful punch. As
part of the AZ-GT family - along with the AZ-GTi - the AZ-GTe provides an
economic option to this multi-functional mount series. Available in multiple
configurations: AZ-GTe mount only, or with our new 80mm or 102mm Startravel
refractors.
Also new for Mount Madness is the HEQ5. This mid-range, German equatorial
mount features a 30 pound payload capacity, proprietary SynScan hand
controller and a sturdy rolled steel tripod. Unlike other comparable mounts
on the market, the HEQ5 features roller bearings on both RA and Dec axes,
providing smoother slewing and tracking than mounts using more traditional
Teflon bearings. Additionally, by including a built-in illuminated polar
finderscope and no external motor cables, the HEQ5 is quick and easy to set
up. With the mount head weighing just 22 pounds, the HEQ5 is perfect for the
astrophotographer who wants a more lightweight version of the popular EQ6-R
without sacrificing sturdiness.
