kind Infiniti for up to five cameras, including
a helmet-mounted GoPro. As Stasiewicz
notes, "We had about four weeks of serious prep on this, where we scouted the
location and figured out where we were
shooting and how to stage it. But there's
only one of these cars drivable in the world;
it's a prototype and it's highly sought after
within the company for marketing
purposes. We got it the day before [the
shoot]."
Though no choice was offered as to
the color of the car, David says the prototype's matte-wrapped finish was ideal. "It
causes less reflection, but you can damage
it a lot easier," he notes. "The first thing
they told us was that if we scratched this
car, we'd be dead!" Therefore, the cinematographer adds, they had to work with
"extremely lightweight rigs," which limited
the size of camera they could mount. In
addition to the rear-seat F55, one Blackmagic camera was rigged on the grille, with
an 18mm Ultra Prime to capture rushing
blacktop, and three more were rigged on a
hostess-tray mount at the side, in the
passenger seat, and at the lower rear, all
equipped with Canon 16-35mm f2.8
zooms.
Digital-imaging technicians Lucien
Keller and Camille Langlois, under head DIT
Olivier Martin, transcoded the resulting
variety of acquisition formats into Avid's
DNxHD 36 codec, as MXF files, for offline
editing. Their equipment included a pair of
Mac Pros, mainly used for transcoding with
look-up tables in DaVinci Resolve 10, and a
