Bailey Inaugurates Panavision
Screening Series
Panavision recently kicked off its
Masters Screening Series at the company's
Woodland Hills headquarters. ASC associate Kimberly Snyder, Panavision's CEO,
welcomed attendees to the company's Tak
Miyagishima Theater, named for the late
ASC associate and former Panavision senior
vice president of engineering. She then
handed the reins to special guest John
Bailey, ASC, who introduced the evening's
film: The Mill and the Cross (AC June '11),
directed by Lech Majewski and shot by
Majewski and Adam Sikora. Following the
screening, Bailey discussed the film's historical, technical and aesthetic details.

Ojai Film Festival Honors Bailey
The 15th Annual Ojai Film Festival
honored John Bailey, ASC with a Lifetime
Achievement Award, presented by associate member Robert Harvey. Wally Pfister, ASC was also in attendance to support
his fellow member. During the festival,
Bailey also spoke about his career in a
session moderated by Stuart Crowner.
Irola Receives Nat Tiffen Award
The 2014 Nat Tiffen Award for
Excellence in Cinematography Education
was presented to Judy Irola, ASC as part of
the International Cinematographers Guild's
Emerging Cinematographer Awards. Irola is
a professor and the Conrad Hall chair of
cinematography at USC's School of Cinematic Arts. She was one of four specialaward recipients recognized during the ECA
opening event at the ASC Clubhouse.
Zellan Offers Look at Cooke
The Society recently held a "Strictly
Social" event at the Clubhouse in Hollywood. Following an outdoor dinner, attendees gathered inside for a presentation by
associate member Les Zellan, the chairman
and owner of Cooke Optics. Zellan offered
an entertaining primer on the company's
storied history, as well as a detailed explanation of each of the steps involved in

manufacturing a lens. Emphasizing Cooke's
driving philosophy of honoring the needs of
cinematographers, camera assistants and
optics owners, Zellan also offered a glimpse
of what's to come from the company. The
event concluded with a lively Q&A with the
active and associate members in attendance.
Lezotte Joins Sim Group
ASC associate Suzanne Lezotte
has joined The Sim Group as director of
marketing. In this position, Lezotte will take
the lead in creating a streamlined marketing
solution for the company's divisions, which
include Sim Digital, PS Production Services,
Bling Digital and Chainsaw.
Prior to joining The Sim Group,
Lezotte was director of marketing for Bexel,
and before that, she served as worldwide
marketing communications director for
Panavision. "We are delighted to have
Suzanne join us with her expertise and
knowledge of our industry," says Rob Sim,
president and CEO of The Sim Group. "Her
impressive background and extensive
network within the cinematography and
production community will help us promote
our services on a broader scale."

Phillips Named Associate
New associate member Tyler
Phillips currently serves as a product
specialist for Matthews Studio Equipment,
where he is tasked with the management
and creation of new industry products,
including media mounting devices, car
mounts, grip stands and camera supports.
With a bachelor's degree in cinema and
television arts from California State University Northridge, Phillips has worked a
number of production jobs, and he previously implemented an internship program
at Matthews.
