Society Welcomes Wiegand
New active member Lisa Wiegand,
ASC began pursuing an interest in camerawork during her undergraduate studies at
Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich.
After completing her graduate degree
programs at the University of California-Los
Angeles and the American Film Institute,
Wiegand shot independent features, documentaries and reality shows before entering
the broadcast-television arena as 2nd-unit
cinematographer for 24. She then served as
1st-unit cinematographer for Dollhouse (AC
Feb. '10), after which she briefly returned to
her hometown to shoot 18 episodes of
Detroit 1-8-7. Her recent television credits
include Necessary Roughness, Wedding
Band and Chicago Fire (AC March '13).
McDonald Named Associate
New associate member Dennis
McDonald is the chief operating officer for
Keslow Camera. Along with overseeing the
company's day-to-day operations, McDonald works and collaborates directly with
cinematographers, producers and production managers. McDonald previously
worked for Isaia and Company as director
of sales and finance, and served as a
camera-crane operator for Turner Network
Television.

Willis Remembered in New York
The ASC and the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600)
recently collaborated on a tribute to the late
Gordon Willis, ASC. During the event,
which was held at the Tribeca Film Center's
Screening Room in New York City, a
number of Willis' collaborators shared their
memories of Willis from both on and off the
set. Additionally, Sol Negrin, ASC and ICG
President Steven Poster, ASC presented
Willis' son, Gordon Jr., with a plaque that
acknowledged the late cinematographer as
"a wonderful colleague, outstanding artist
and great friend." The memorial concluded
with a screening of Klute, which Willis
photographed for director Alan J. Pakula.
Deakins on Display in
Century City
Universal Pictures and AMC Theatres
recently collaborated for an exhibit of select
works from the films of Roger Deakins,
ASC, BSC. Presented at the AMC theater in
Century City, Calif., "Roger Deakins: Persistent Vision" included a photographic
glimpse of Deakins' work on The Shawshank Redemption, No Country for Old
Men, The Assassination of Jesse James by
the Coward Robert Ford, The Man Who
Wasn't There, Skyfall and Unbroken. At the

unveiling, actor Josh Brolin introduced
Deakins, who briefly spoke to a crowd that
included fellow cinematographer Haskell
Wexler, ASC.
In his biographical text at the front of
the exhibit, Deakins saluted the late Conrad
Hall, ASC with a mention of advice Hall
once bestowed: "Find an apple box, sit on
it, and look so deep in thought that no one
would dare approach."
Walker Named Kodak
Cinematographer-in-Residence
Mandy Walker, ASC, ACS has
been named the 2014-'15 Kodak cinematographer-in-residence at the University
of California-Los Angeles School of Theater,
Film and Television. Sponsored by the Eastman Kodak Co., the program began in
2000 to enhance the learning experience of
students with insight from renowned cinematographers. Walker's residency began in
December and continues for the remainder
of the 2014-'15 academic year. Previous
cinematographers-in-residence include ASC
members Guillermo Navarro, Roger
Deakins, Dante Spinotti, Richard Crudo,
John Bailey, Stephen H. Burum, Vilmos Zsigmond, Victor J. Kemper, Joan Churchill,
Laszlo Kovacs, Owen Roizman, Conrad L.
Hall, Dean Cundey and Allen Daviau.
