The 24th Camerimage International
Film Festival recently wrapped in Bydgoszcz,
Poland. Michael Chapman, ASC received
the Lifetime Achievement Award. Greig
Fraser, ASC, ACS won the festival's Golden
Frog for his work on the feature Lion, while
Bradford Young, ASC took home the
Silver Frog for Arrival (AC Dec. '16) and
Anthony Dod Mantle, ASC, BSC, DFF
received the Bronze Frog for Snowden. In
the First Look - Pilots TV Competition,
Robert Elswit, ASC won for The Night Of,
"The Beach." Numerous ASC members
were also in attendance, and many -
including Dod Mantle, Larry Fong, Jacek
Laskus, Suki Medencevic, Roberto
Schaefer, Dante Spinotti, John Toll,
Checco Varese and Robert Yeoman -
participated in panels or workshops, or
served on the festival's juries. Additionally,
AC senior European correspondent
Benjamin B moderated a discussion about
the late Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC, HSC with
a panel that included AC editor-in-chief and
publisher Stephen Pizzello; Dod Mantle;
Laskus; Dick Pope, BSC; Nancy Schreiber,
ASC; and Yeoman.

Prieto Named Kodak
Cinematographer-in-Residence
at UCLA
Rodrigo Prieto, ASC, AMC has
been named the 2016-'17 Kodak CineAmerican Cinematographer

matographer-in-Residence at the University
of California, Los Angeles' School of
Theater, Film and Television. Prieto's residency, which includes a number of workshops and screenings, began in December
and continues for the remainder of the
2016-'17 academic year.
"As cinematographers, we manipulate light and utilize composition, texture,
color and movement in an attempt to
capture the essence of something very
elusive: emotional truth," Prieto says. "Our
goal is to transport the viewer into
emotional states that feel authentic and
palpable. Film negative is an essential tool
for cinematographers to reproduce the
subtle nuances of feelings on actors' faces,
as well as to create visual environments to
embody these emotions. I am deeply
honored and very grateful to the UCLA
School of Theater, Film and Television, and
Kodak for naming me Cinematographer-inResidence."
This is the 17th year of the residency
program, which UCLA TFT professor
William McDonald - an ASC associate
member - established in 2000. Steve
Bellamy, president of motion picture and
entertainment for Eastman Kodak Co., says,
"The Kodak Cinematographer-in-Residence
Program is a very important part of our
company's ethos and history, and we're
honored to continue to support it. Rodrigo
Prieto is an amazing talent and a wonderful
