The American Society of Cinematographers saluted
the best cinematography of 2013 at its 28th annual ASC
Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography,
held on Feb. 1, 2014 at the Hollywood & Highland Grand
Ballroom in Los Angeles. Hosting the event were ASC
President's Assistant Delphine Figueras and ASC member
John Simmons, who entertained the crowd with their deft
comic timing.
Following the awards ceremony, the ASC Clubhouse
was the site of a boisterous afterparty sponsored by
Panavision. The bash was filled to capacity with revelers who
danced and socialized well past the traditional "last call" hour.
In the days leading up to the awards, the ASC also
hosted an Open House, a Sponsors Breakfast and a Nominees
Dinner. Photos from all of the Society's events are featured on
the following pages.
Special ASC Awards handed out during the ceremony
included the Board of Governors Award, presented to filmmaker John Wells; the Bud Stone Award of Distinction,
presented to ASC associate Beverly Wood, EVP of Technical
Services and Client Relations for EFilm, a Deluxe Digital
Studios company; the Career Achievement in Television
Award, presented to Richard Rawlings Jr., ASC; the
International Award, presented to Eduardo Serra, ASC,
AFC; and the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to
Dean Cundey, ASC.
The Society also unveiled the inaugural ASC Spotlight
Award, created to honor great cinematography discovered in
non-mainstream movies. While introducing the new category, ASC Awards Chairman Lowell Peterson said, "I want to
personally salute four ASC members who pushed the hardest
to support this inspired idea: Amy Vincent and Rodney
Taylor championed this new award for years. Stephen
Lighthill embraced it and gave it the green light. And Roberto
Schaefer and his committee hammered out the details and
carried the ball into the end zone."
