Sigma Announces Art Primes
Sigma has announced that it's manufacturing a new system of Sony E-mount
lenses, beginning with the 14mm (f1.8) DG
HSM Art, 20mm (f1.4) DG HSM Art, 24mm
(f1.4) DG HSM Art, 35mm (f1.4) DG HSM Art,
50mm (f1.4) DG HSM Art, 70mm (f2.8) DG
Macro Art, 85mm (f1.4) DG HSM Art, 105mm
(f1.4) DG HSM Art and 135mm (f1.4) DG
HSM Art. While seven of those lenses are
based on previously available focal lengths, the
70mm DG Macro Art and 105mm DG HSM
Art are brand-new designs.
The company has also added a newly
developed control algorithm
to optimize the
lenses' autofocus drive and
maximize data
transmission
speeds. The lenses
are compatible with
Sony's AF-C continuous autofocus, aberration
correction and in-camera image stabilization.
The 105mm DG HSM Art lens -
referred to as the "Bokeh Master" - provides
full-frame coverage, with 17 optical elements
in 12 groups to minimize optical aberrations
and sagittal coma flare. For durability and use
in inclement weather, the lens has been given
the same dust- and splash-proof design as
Sigma's Sports line of lenses. It also comes with
a plastic hood that has been reinforced with
carbon fiber and a removable Arca-Swiss
tripod socket.
The 70mm DG Macro HSM Art is the
first macro prime in the Sigma Global Vision
(SGV) Art line. The lens features a floating,
two-group focus mechanism that extends
from the barrel. Alongside two FLD glass
elements, two SLD glass elements, and an
element with a high rate of anomalous partial
dispersion and high index of refraction, two
aspherical lens elements work together to
increase resolution at closer shooting
distances.
Eliminating the mechanical connection
between focus ring and drive, the lenses'
newly developed "focus-by-wire" system has
a coreless DC motor for quiet focus with optimal speed. With full manual focus available
during autofocus, there is a large angle of rotation for minute adjustments. Compatible with
Sigma Tele Converters and the Sigma Electronic EM-140 DG Macro Flash - the latter

through Sigma's upcoming 65mm Macro
Flash Adapter - the 70mm DG Macro
features 72mm front-diameter threading for
filters and 72mm flash adapters.
Sigma has also announced its lens
firmware version 2.00 update for its SGV
interchangeable lenses compatible with
Canon digital cameras featuring Lens Aberration Correction. The three types of corrective functions available are for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, and distortion. By updating their lens firmware to
version 2.00, users with compatible SGV
lenses can perform aberration corrections
that match the optical characteristics of their
lenses. In addition, by turning Lens Aberration Correction on, and before taking
photographs, users can prevent certain
image and operation errors from occurring.

Duclos Converts Zooms
Following up on its recent conversion
for Fujinon's MK series of zooms to Sony's FZ
mount, Duclos Lenses - an optics service
and repair company based in Los Angeles -
has introduced a conversion kit for the Fujinon 20-120mm (T3.5) Cabrio XK lens,
adapting the PL-mount zoom for use with
Canon's EF-mount cameras.
The Duclos kit comes with a billet
aluminum sub-mount, anodized to match
the finish of the Fujinon Cabrio line, and a
stainless-steel EF-mount flange for reliability
and fit. When the conversion is performed
through Duclos, the installation is nondestructive, safely storing and protecting the
LDS and /i data pads of the Cabrio zoom,
although data transmission is not available
after conversion.
