Denz Checks Lenses
Denz has introduced the Medium
Format Lens Checker (MFC 65) and
Portable Lens Checker (PLC).
The MFC 65 is a high-performance
projector for testing medium-format lenses
with an image circle up to 60mm. State-ofthe-art high-power COB LEDs provide
plenty of light, and sophisticated cooling
enables the projector to be used over many
hours. The newly developed Denz-Chart
features markings for all modern large
sensors. The MFC 65 features an 80mm
universal mount, with an array of available
adapters.
A new user interface allows an individual user to test a lens via a wireless
remote control; the Denz-Tablet controls
flange focal distance and brightness as well
as the lens' zoom and focus. A video stream
to the tablet makes all lens markings visible
for the tester standing at the projection
wall.
The PLC is a compact lens projector
for full-frame lenses. It offers analog positioning for robust operation free of float, a
test range flange focal length of 1.5mm,
and a highly accurate scale ring. The incorporated Denz test chart covers full frame,
Red Helium, Super 35, APS-C, MFT and 1"
image formats, and the LED is optimized for
homogeneous illumination up to full frame.
Active cooling enables operation for hours;
should the PLC overheat, it automatically
shuts off. The unit's one-button interface
adjusts brightness in four steps: 0, 25, 50
and 100 percent.

Vocas Upgrades Matte-Box Line
Camera-accessories manufacturer
Vocas Systems has introduced three new
matte boxes. The MB-216, MB-256 and
MB-436 incorporate new features for
increased versatility and ease of use.
Succeeding the company's M-215,
the Vocas MB-216 works with most wideangle lenses in the 1.33:1 and 1.78:1
aspect ratios, and is wide enough to accommodate most cameras with a wide-angle
converter without vignetting. It includes
one rotatable 4"x4" filter tray and space for
a fixed 4"x4" filter in the front of the hood.
The Vocas MB-256 replaces the
company's M-255. The matte box is
designed for use with Zeiss CP.2 lenses and
is compatible with lenses with a front diameter up to 114mm. It also includes one
rotatable 4"x4" filter tray and space for a
fixed 4"x4" filter in the front of the hood.
The MB-256 features a patented heavyduty French-flag clamper and patented
internal eyebrows for maximum lens-flare
reduction.
New for Vocas, both the MB-216
and MB-256 matte boxes feature top-bar
mounts for increased stability. They also
feature a quick-lock mounting system that
attaches directly to the front barrel of
114mm lenses. These matte boxes can be
used with the Vocas 15mm Swing-Away
Bracket, which allows the user to detach
the matte box from the lens quickly and
without disassembling the entire setup.
The Vocas MB-436 succeeds the
MB0435 and is an affordable 4"x5.65"
matte box compatible with big lenses and

the latest large-sensor cameras. The unit
offers numerous features that protect the
camera and enhance creativity. It, too, is
now mountable to top bars, and is compatible with the Swing-Away Bracket and
other Vocas accessories.
All Vocas matte boxes include a new
locking mechanism, which makes it easier
to adjust locking strength and prevents the
clamper from falling out of the locking
mechanism.

Anton/Bauer Eases
Battery Travel
Anton/Bauer, a Vitec Group brand,
has launched its LPD Discharger. Developed
in partnership with one of the world's
largest rental houses, the LPD can discharge
up to four 90-watt-hour batteries in three
hours or less, helping customers comply
with the IATA regulations that state that Liion batteries transported as cargo must be
charged to no more than 30 percent of
their rated capacity.
"When the IATA tightened its regulations for battery transport last year, it
created a big dilemma for rental houses and

international
broadcasters
whose
customers or crews needed to fly home
from a remote shoot," said Andrew Butler,
product manager of Anton/Bauer. "Until
now, there's been no elegant way to
discharge batteries below the 30-percent
threshold, and it simply isn't feasible for the
crew to carry large quantities of bulky
batteries into the cabin as carry-on luggage.
But with our new LPD, our customers can
discharge and ship their batteries in full
compliance with the regulations, and then
fly through security."
As a dedicated battery-discharge
unit, the LPD requires no external power;
rather, it uses energy from the batteries it is
discharging. This allows for travel-friendly
operation and ensures that the discharging
