3, where he met director Olivier Megaton. The two then collaborated on
the action thrillers Colombiana and Taken 2. His television work includes
both seasons of the Netflix series Marco Polo, for which he was nominated
for an ASC Award, as well as the web miniseries The Far Cry Experience
and Prime Video's ZeroZeroZero (see page 64). His upcoming work includes
Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher.
Boris Mojsovski, ASC, CSC was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina,
cinematographers and other filmmakers to help bring digital capture into
its own. As filmmakers " continued to experiment and started to see some
potential in the technology, " Thorpe says, he held firmly that they were
all " here to learn. We were trying to emulate motion-picture film. It was a
learning process for everybody, and by 2005 or 2006, things were taking
off. The [Panavision] Genesis came out, and then the Dalsa - the first
large-format digital camera. Remember, all the early HD work was done
with a 2/3-inch chip. "
Thorpe describes the digital-cinematography landscape he departs
today as " flowering, " noting the evolution of 8K imaging, high dynamic
range, wide color gamut, improved recording capabilities, and alternative
frame rates. " It will be interesting to see whether the industry ever moves
away from 24 frames, " he muses.
One way he plans to stay informed: " I follow the ASC MITC very
closely! "
Society Welcomes Lacourbas, Mojsovski, Vialet
Romain Lacourbas, ASC, AFC studied at the École Supérieure de Réalisation
Audiovisuelle (ESRA) in Paris. He worked with director Lola Doillon on
her first feature, Et toi t'es sur qui? (aka Just About Love?), and served as
an additional cinematographer on several features, including Transporters
76 / JULY 2021
but moved to Toronto following the Bosnian War. He completed a master's
degree in production and film theory, and his education continued when
ASC greats Vilmos Zsigmond and László Kovács selected him as one of
10 participants in a Budapest masterclass. Mojsovski made his directorial
debut with the 2002 feature Three and a Half, which he also wrote, and
followed with the feature Neil. He earned a CSC Award nomination for his
camerawork on the crime drama Kidnap Capital, and then earned an ASC
Award for his work on the Syfy series 12 Monkeys. His television work
also includes NBC's Taken, Netflix's Between, History's Knightfall, and DC
Universe's Titans, for which he also directed three episodes.
Richard Vialet, ASC studied cinematography at Howard University
and the American Film Institute Conservatory. As a cinematographer, he
has worked on projects around the globe and is known for his popular
feature collaborations with prolific filmmaker Tyler Perry, including the
romantic comedy Nobody's Fool, the psychological thriller Acrimony and
the comedy-horror hybrid Boo! A Madea Halloween. He photographed the
" Friday the 31st " and " Bad Seed " segments of the horror anthology Tales
of Halloween, and his other feature credits include A True Story, The Last
Fall and 9 Rides (the latter two of which were directed by Academy Award
winner Matthew A. Cherry). His television work includes the critically
acclaimed Starz drama P-Valley, the BET musical drama American Soul and
the Netflix superhero drama Raising Dion.
