Arri Lights up SkyPanel
Arri has introduced the SkyPanel line of compact, ultrabright, high-quality LED soft-light fixtures. With a design focused on
form, color, beam field and output, SkyPanel represents the culmination of more than a decade of research and development of LED
technology at Arri.
SkyPanel will initially be available in two sizes: the S60 and
S30. The S60 is a mid-range model, featuring a light aperture of
645x300mm to accommodate the vast majority of applications. The
S30 is a smaller, more portable version; half the length of the S60,
it is perfect for on-the-go mobile applications. Both models are available in fully color-tunable and remote-phosphor versions.
Like Arri's L-Series LED Fresnels, SkyPanel C (Color) versions
are fully tunable; correlated color temperature is adjustable between
2,800K and 10,000K, with excellent color rendition over the entire
range. Full plus- and minus-green correction can be achieved with
the simple turn of a knob, and in addition to CCT control, vivid color
selection and saturation adjustment are also possible. Each LED light
engine is computer-calibrated in order to ensure unit-to-unit and
batch-to-batch consistency, as well as accurate color temperatures.
Brighter than a 2K tungsten soft light or a 6K tungsten space
light, the SkyPanel S60 produces a soft and uniform beam field.
Mixing some 2,000 calibrated red, green, blue and white LEDs into
one homogeneous beam of soft light, the SkyPanel produces shadows that are soft in nature and do not exhibit multiple edges or
strange colors. The combination of the curated selection of diffusion
panels, LED mixing chamber and large light aperture allow for the
light to wrap around objects, eliminating sharp shadows; the beam
field is homogeneous in both color and intensity.
The diffusor panels on the front of the lamp head are interchangeable, so going from a heavy diffusion to a light diffusion can
be done in a matter of seconds. Arri also plans to roll out further
diffusion accessories that will accommodate other applications.
Additionally, by providing a large pool of downward soft light - as

well as the ability to change CCT and vivid colors - the SkyPanel
offers a compelling alternative to conventional space lights.
If tunability is not required, a remote-phosphor version of the
SkyPanel is also available. Remote-phosphor technology uses
powerful blue LEDs to excite a phosphor-coated panel, which is
positioned further away from the LEDs. These high-quality phosphors deliver near-perfect color rendition and outstanding light
output. The remote-phosphor versions of SkyPanel are roughly 10percent brighter than the color versions and have a lower price
point. Different color-temperature panels are available, including
2,700K, 3,200K, 4,300K, 5,600K and 6,500K.
Other features include an on-board battery input for mobile
applications, LAN port for network connectivity, and a USB-A port
for firmware updates via thumb drive. Constructed of resilient materials to meet the rigors of modern productions, all SkyPanel fixtures
are hand-assembled in Germany.

Vantage Goes Big With Hawk65
Turning its attention to the renewed interest in the 65mm
format, Vantage has developed the Hawk65 Anamorphic, Hawk65
Anamorphic Vintage '74 and Hawk65 Max lens series. Each series
will supply cinematographers with a different 65mm option, while
all three series will use Vantage's new Selective-Off-Plane Technology, which influences a specific parameter of the image characteristic.
Hawk65 Anamorphic includes prime lenses from 35mm to
250mm and front-anamorphic zooms, providing the true largeformat 'Scope look. Hawk65 Anamorphic Vintage '74 is a version of
the Hawk65 Anamorphics with lower contrast, flares and creamy
skin tones that create a 1970s aesthetic. Hawk65 Max consists of
several wide- and medium-angle lenses that have been developed
for Imax and other giant-screen applications.
