Still later, in case the Yiddish dialect of the

original scene might itself be found offensive, the
dialogue was changed as well. Now the Wolf spoke in a
standard "dumb" cartoon voice. Modern audiences

almost

invariably shown this third version of the
anything amiss. A slight but
definite change in drawing style, and the fact that the
Wolf's lip movements do not match the dialogue on the
soundtrack, are the only evidence of the patchwork.
All in all, the Pigs and Wolf have had quite a
varied career since 1933. Their original function was a
strictly limited one, and without the distinctive person¬
alities that were given to them, their story might well
have ended then and there. Instead, some special
intangible appeal has brought them back time and
again - most recently in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and will probably continue to do so as long as people
are

had advanced through the ranks to become a director,
and when it was decided to revise the peddler scene,
the project was assigned to Hannah's unit.
