It provides services to a network of acute care hospitals and related healthcare entities that provide patient care, medical education, research, and community service. Mr. Allison's primary responsibility is to help Baylor Scott & White attain its vision "to be the most trusted name in giving and receiving safe, quality, compassionate health care." To accomplish this, Mr. Allison oversees a leadership team that continues to develop Baylor Scott & White as a patient-focused healthcare delivery system and clinical enterprise offering prevention and wellness, physician, outpatient, acute hospital, and other services that are geographically dispersed yet efficient and fully coordinated. He focuses on providing quality, safe patient care that can be measured and reported and places a strong emphasis on medical education and research, as well as on collaboration with physicians in the design and development of an integrated delivery system. Mr. Allison's career spans more than four decades in healthcare management. On October 1, 2013, he was named CEO of Baylor Scott & White Health. Mr. Allison received a master's degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, in 1973. He also is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, and in 2004, he received an Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Dallas Baptist University. Dr. Kash: You have more than four decades of experience in healthcare management and are nationally recognized by your peers. How did you accomplish all of this, and what is your secret ingredient for healthcare leadership success? Mr. Allison: If you are driving down the road and see a turtle on top of a fence post, you know immediately that that turtle did not get there by itself. That is the way I feel. I am indebted to the many people who helped me in my more than 40 years in healthcare. I credit the people who took an interest in me and were my mentors. I credit my team. I have been blessed by the many great leaders who worked with me throughout my career. When I was named CEO of the Year by D CEO magazine, I was sincere in saying this recognition really goes to the men and women of Baylor Scott & White. They are the ones who make our organization what it is. They work 24/7, and they do wonderful work. 81
