higher education institutions and local government agencies to improve the quality of
student housing in their neighborhoods. Since
the university has a developed network with
higher education institutions in the area and
currently hosts the Community Liaison Group,
community members agreed that the university is best placed to lead the working group.
Community members also commented on
ongoing efforts to lobby the local government
to renew the registration process for student
housing and asserted that their work would be
more inﬂuential with the support of area universities and tertiary institutions. The passion
and enthusiasm of community members is a
very promising sign for future students living
in off-campus student housing. Although
many challenges lie ahead for the students,
longstanding residents, higher education institutions, and local government in this community, there are also many opportunities and
much good will to meet them head on.
